Last summer, the FDA learned and reported that some generic versions of the angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) medicines contain nitrosamine impurities that don’t meet the agency’s safety standards. ARBs, including valsartan, irbesartan, losartan and others, are a class of medicines used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. Nitrosamine impurities, including N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and N-Nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA), are probable human carcinogens. These two substances are known environmental contaminants and found in water and foods, including meats, dairy products and vegetables. But their presence in drug products is not acceptable. We were deeply concerned when we learned about the presence of these impurities. We immediately undertook a major operation to investigate and to identify the root causes for the presence of these...

Meet Master sculptor Ankit Patel, who expresses poetry in bronze Close

Ankit Patel was best described by late writer and connoisseur of art, Mulkraj Anand as a dynamic sculptor who makes solid matter into curvaceous movement. The curves seek to suggest that solid is liquid. His forms create human rhythms of bodies, which suggest an elasticity of the human body where flesh is breathing. His kinetic creations which exude form in every movement can only be revealed by his skill and presentation. I met Patel sir at his solo in Jehangir Art Gallery accompanied with Mrs. Patel, as I fondly call them. I was born in Surat, trained in Baroda and now settled in multicultural Jaipur, my sculptures reflect my cross-current journey. My sculptural musings make solid matter move into a rounded movement. Such instants serve as substitutes for life anticipating. My works arouse excitement with their interplay of figurative and abstract with texture. I have travelled an extensive journey as a sculptor from Gujarat to Rajasthan with nostalgic intervention to look back and explore the arrival of visual culture down from childhood memory lane to the present day. My native village, Mota Varachha gives me the power of imagination and 34 years affiliation with Rajasthan,...

A B-2 stealth bomber flew its first extended sortie over the Arctic

In a clear message to Russian forces, three US B-2 Spirit stealth bombers flew an extended sortie over the Arctic Circle for the first time on Sept. 5, the Air Force’s 509th Bomb Wing confirmed to Insider. “This familiarization was the B-2′s first mission this far north in the European theater,” according to a Facebook post from the US Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa. Details about the sortie over the Norwegian Sea are scarce, but the aircraft involved completed a night refueling over the Arctic Circle as part of Bomber Task Force Europe. In March, Norway accused Russia of jamming its GPS systems and interfering in encrypted communications systems. “Training outside the U.S. enables aircrew and Airmen to become familiar with other theaters and airspace, and enhances enduring skills and relationships necessary to confront a broad range of global challenges,” US Air Force spokesman Capt. Christopher Bowyer-Meeder told Insider. Laser cutting metal is nothing new, but recently it’s becoming more and more accessible to the

Laser cutting metal is nothing new, but recently it’s becoming more and more accessible to the average hobbyist. Follow these simple guidelines to design your first laser cut metal part! In short, a laser is a focused beam of light, concentrating a lot of energy on a very small area. When this happens, material in front of a laser will burn, melt, or vaporize, making a hole. Add some CNC to that, and you get a machine that can cut or engrave very intricate parts made of wood, plastic, rubber, metal, foam, or other materials. Every material has its limitations and benefits when comes to a laser cutting. For instance, you may think that a laser can cut through anything, but that’s simply not the case. Not every material is suitable for laser cutting. That’s because every material requires a particular amount of energy to be cut. For example, the energy needed to cut through paper is a lot less than the energy needed for a 20-mm thick steel plate. Keep this in mind when buying a laser or ordering through a laser cutting service. Always check the laser’s power or at least what materials it can cut. As a reference, a 40-W laser can cut through paper, cardboard, foam, and thin p...

U.S. illness related to liquid vaporizers worries dry-herb vape makers

Call it a tale of two vapes: a lung illness related to liquid vaporizer devices, believed to have killed six people in the U.S. and sickened hundreds more, is raising concern among firms that manufacture and sell dry herb cannabis vaporizers, which have not been implicated in the outbreak. The slim, portable gadgets involved in the ongoing public health crisis are called e-cigarettes by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, but are known more commonly as vape pens, or simply vapes. They deliver potent hits of vapour by heating up concentrated liquid forms of cannabis or nicotine, which may also include chemical-thickening agents. One such thickener, Vitamin E acetate, is suspected as one possible cause of the vaping-related illness, and has been found in some black-market vaping products in New York state. Dry herb vaporizers work differently: they heat up cannabis bud in its plant form, turning THC and other plant-derived chemical compounds into inhalable vapour without setting the bud on fire. The cannabis accessories come in both portable and table-top designs, and are widely available across Canada. Subscribers Log in below to continue reading, not a subscriber? Create an ac...

Zacks.com featured highlights include: Universal Forest Products, Fossil, Hibbett, China Petroleum and Principal Financial

Chicago, IL – September 11, 2019 – Stocks in this week’s article are Universal Forest Products UFPI, Fossil Group FOSL, Hibbett Sports HIBB, China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. SNP and Principal Financial Group PFG. When considering valuation metrics, price-to-earnings ratio has always been the obvious choice. This is because calculations based on earnings are easy and come in handy. However, price-to-sales has emerged as a convenient tool to determine the value of stocks that are incurring losses or are in an early cycle of development, generating meager or no profits. While a loss-making company with a negative price-to-earnings ratio falls out of investor favor, its price-to-sales could indicate the hidden strength of its business. This underrated ratio is also used to identify a recovery situation or ensure that a company’s growth is not overvalued. A stock’s price-to-sales ratio reflects how much investors are paying for each dollar of revenues generated by the company. If the price-to-sales ratio is 1, it means that investors are paying $1 for every $1 of revenues generated by the company. So, it goes without saying that a stock with a price-to-sales below 1 ...

An Extremely Detailed Look At The Porsche Taycan’s Engineering Designed To Take On Tesla

Porsche’s first fully electric car is here, and depending on whom you ask, it could be the most serious competition the Tesla Model S has faced yet. It’s called the Porsche Taycan, and it is an all-electric sport sedan promising up to 750 horsepower, acceleration from zero to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, and a fast-charging 800 volt battery with 280 miles of range based on the European WLTP cycle. I spoke in detail with Porsche’s engineers about this electric powerhouse, and I learned it’s a wild piece of technology unlike any Porsche that’s come before it. Here’s everything you wanted to know, and probably some stuff you didn’t know you wanted to know. (Full Disclosure: Porsche flew me to Atlanta, put me up in a nice hotel, fed me food, and let me talk to some nerdy engineers about the new Taycan). The Stuttgart-based company invited me to the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, where the Taycan’s head engineers assembled to discuss the impressive specs of the two Taycan trims set to launch later this year, the Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S. Both cars can make up to 616 horsepower for 10 continuous seconds, and both offer “overboost” functions, with the Turbo capable of a 2.5-se...
